Dr. Walid Tout
is a technology thought leader and successful entrepreneur, his career spans 17 years during which he worked with a number of Fortune 500 and multinational companies including SONY, Intel, Daimler Chrysler, FORD and TTI Inc., United Health Group, Ingenix and the healthcare industry, Proquest, Computer Sciences Corporation, and Urban Sciences. Over the past 9 years, Dr. Tout also worked on internet issues with international and worldwide impact, relating to business and technical processes with international groups including ICANN and the IETF.
Dr. Tout’s career ranged from in-depth technical expertise in a wide range of areas to overall business systems across national and multinational corporations. His expertise and work in the RFID and asset tracking field goes back to 1994 with the first implementation of vehicle, inventory and yard tracking for FORD and TTI. This system spanned multiple locations, suppliers and service providers and integrated a number of heterogeneous systems from multiple vendors in a single seamless and location transparent manner.
In 1996, Dr. Tout developed the first ever commercial internet-based video/audio conferencing system for Specom Technologies of Santa Clara California. The system was demoed at Comdex ’96 with the first of its kind video conference over the internet between the mayor of Las Vegas and the mayor of Osaka, Japan. Dr. Tout also lead the design and implementation of the first web-based risk management system for DORN technologies, later acquired by Computer Sciences Corporation.
Between 1999 and 2000, Dr. Tout invented and patented the client-based process for implementing internationalized domain names within the confines of the existing internet infrastructure. Adaptations of this process later became the official IETF Internationalized Domain Name (“IDN”) standards that are currently implemented by Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Mozilla’s FireFox, as well as a host of other browsers and internet applications.
Dr. Tout’s work with Intel and DaimlerChrysler in RFID and asset tracking systems, as well as the study and evaluation of business IT systems and subsystems, making recommendations on redesigns and completely new designs to streamline the business process and bring systems in line with business goals and expectations.
As an entrepreneur Dr. Walid was co-founded RFID-International Group, a successful RFID technology leader with multimillion dollars projects with DOD, military, supply-chain and Healthcare industry. Dr. Tout is the CTO at RFID-IG where he oversees all RFID technology development, architecture and implementation in the company.
In addition, he helped cofound number of successful technology companies including: eGroup L.L.C., an internet idea incubator, Connectex L.L.C., a computer and internet consulting company, WALID Inc., an Internationalized Domain Names company.
Dr. Tout received his BS in Computer Science and Mathematics from Eastern Michigan University. Subsequently, he received his MS and Ph.D. Degrees in Computer Science from Michigan State University. Dr. Tout holds a number of US and international patents and a number of pending and continuing applications. Dr. Tout is a member of a number of industry domain experts groups, which deliver expertise and decision-making assistance to business, government and investment leaders from around the world.
